The Punjab government has decided that the Special Task Force (STF) will work as an independent and autonomous vertical of the police department on the lines of state Intelligence Wing, a spokesperson said Thursday.
On the directions of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, the state Home Department has issued a notification for making the STF an independent force and to amalgamate the Punjab State Narcotics Control Bureau with the STF to eradicate drug menace and illicit trafficking from the state, he said.
Mohammad Mustafa has already been posted as DGP STF in place of ADGP Harpreet Sidhu who has been posted as special principal secretary to the chief minister.
