The seizure was made during searches conducted in Kundhukal and Mandapam on a complaint from Sri Lankan officials about the recent theft of the fishing nets spread by Lankan fishermen near their coast, they said.
Customs officials said they seized 18 kg of fishing nets from two persons at Kundhukal.
Marine police personnel seized three nets from a house at Mandapam, police said adding one person had been detained.
