The violence was reported from Junigadhi and Chhipwad, the communally sensitive areas, where three companies of Special Reserve Police Force (about 300 personnel) were deployed to maintain peace and prevent any flare-up, Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said.
No injuries were reported, he said.
"The stone-throwing incident took place after a dispute between two groups involving an autorickshaw driver," Sharma told PTI.
"Police fired 16 tear gas shells to disperse the stone -pelting crowds and situation was brought under control immediately," the IPS officer said.
