Police stopped the kanwariyas and their associates from offering water due to "unavoidable reasons" after which they gheraoed the policemen, who had to leave the place, it said.
Agitated, the associates of kanwariyas torched three motorcycles and damaged jeep of Qila police station.
District Magistrate Sneh Lata, IG Vijay Singh Meena and other officers reached the spot and controlled the situation.
Expressing anguish over the incident, Local MLA Arun Kumar said the temple area is a sensitive place, but proper police arrangement was not made, which was "unfortunate".
