The man had returned home early this morning inebirated following which a war of words broke out with his wife berating him for coming home drunk on Pongal day.
When the wife and their two-year-old child were asleep, the man made a noose of his belt and strangulated her to death, police said.
Neigbhours rushed to the house on hearing the wails of the child and found the man sitting near the body of his wife. He told them he had killed her in a fit of anger and under the influence of liquor.
