The student belonging to Puliampatti village had allegedly hanged himself to death after hacking a class XI girl and injuring her in the hand for "not responding to his love overtures", police said.
The girl was travelling in a mini bus to write her examination when she was hacked by the student. He also threatened the passengers of the bus when they rushed to save the girl and nab him, and escaped.
The boy had earlier tried to strangulate the girl for rejecting his love and had attacked the girl's mother with a grinding stone. He was arrested then and let on bail only recently, police said.
The passengers told police that before hacking the girl, the student told her that she should not marry anybody, if she did not marry him, police said.
