A 12th standard girl is facing the risk of losing an academic year after her school in north Kashmir's Baramulla district refused her the admit card for writing the annual examinations due to non-payment of fees.
Abdul Majeed Ganai, father of the girl, said his daughter was supposed to appear for the class 12th annual examination yesterday.
As the school management refused to hand out the admit card to her till she cleared the outstanding fee, the girl fainted and had to be rushed to a clinic for treatment.
"The outstanding balance was Rs 40,000 and I along with some local elders went to her school. I had arranged Rs 10,000 and promised to pay the balance in three installments. However, they were not ready to listen a word on it," Ganai said.
He said he could not clear the dues in time due to some financial problems.
"My daughter is a brilliant student but the school authorities ruined her career and health. She secured 73 per cent marks in 10th class and wanted to crack medical entrance examinations," he said.
Ganai has appealed to Education Minister Naeem Akhtar to intervene and make arrangements for his daughter to write the examination, including the paper she missed.
The Minister could not be reached for a comment but Waheed Para, political analyst of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, said the Board of School Education will arrange for the girl to write the missed paper.
"As per the Education Minister's directions, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has decided that the girl student from Baramula Public School, who missed her paper yesterday due to callousness of school authorities, will be allowed to take the missed paper later this week," Para wrote on his Facebook page.
However, Public Relations Officer of the BOSE Shaukat Usman said no decision has been taken yet for conducting separate examination for the girl in the paper which she has missed.
"No such decision has been taken yet," Usman said.
