Students of Haridwar-based Gayatri Vidyapeeth have taken a vow not to burst crackers on the occasion of Diwali and celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly manner.
The students from class one to twelve at Gayatri Vidyapeeth took the pledge in response to a call given by Gayatri Parivar chief Pranav Pandya yesterday that the festival be celebrated in an eco-friendly manner, a release from the institution said.
They also took out an awareness rally from the institution's premises and educated people in Haripur Kalan and Sapt Sarovar areas about the ill effects of firecrackers on the environment.
