Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Minister R Lalzirliana today said the study and evaluation report of the State Prohibition Council would be examined before making decisions on the continuation or scrapping of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control Act, 2014.
In a written reply to a query from opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) members - Vanlalzawma and Lalruatkima - Lalzirliana said that the State Prohibition Council had submitted its study report to the government on March five last.
The terms of reference of the Council was to study the impact of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control Act, 2014 on economical and social aspects, health aspects and also review of the implementation of the act and rules.
He expressed opinion that the implementation of the act was a success as liquor drinkers could now find healthier liquor at a cheaper rate and it would end the smuggling of spurious spirits from Myanmar.
The MLPC Act, 2014 came into force in January 2015.
