Following a tip-off, Ajay Kumar (26), a police sub- inspector posted at Outer district, Amit alias Hoti (24), Rahul Dabas (23), Manoj Verma (32) and and Kuldeep (20) were arrested by Crime Branch yesterday from a farmhouse at Ladpur village.
Mobile phones containing the answer keys to all four sets of question papers were seized from the accused, police said.
"We got a tip-off that a gang will leak the question paper for the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination- 2013 conducted by SSC at the all-India level, solve it and send the answers through mobile phones to those appearing in the exam," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ravindra Yadav.
One of the absconding duo is reportedly a Railway Protection Force Sub-Inspector, said Yadav.
"The gang assured the candidates approaching them that the answers would be provided through SMS just before the commencement of the exam. They would charge lakhs of rupees from them for the same," Yadav added.
Among the accused, Manoj Verma, who qualified in the SSC Assistant Grade Exam, was earlier involved in a similar racket for which he had been arrested by Shahbad Dairy police station. He was out on bail in the case.
"Preliminary inquiries show this is a widespread racket which is likely to have multiple sources of leakage of papers. To identify the source behind the racket, technical surveillance is being done and an in-depth investigation will be conducted in the matter," said Yadav.
