Subsidence affects NH 54

Subsidence at Hunthar locality here has affected the Aizawl-Lengpui stretch of NH 54, which is the lifeline of the state linking it with the rest of the country and at least 45 families have so far been evacuated.
Mizoram Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department officials today said subsidence had been reported in the area for the past few years and intensified this year.
The officials said seven buildings in the area occupied by 11 families have been dismantled.
Six familes have been provided temporary shelter at the Legal Metrology department building and two were lodged at a hall belonging to the local women organisation, while majority of them joined their relatives, they said.

Two senior geologists from Geological Survey of India have began on the spot study of the area from Wednesday to find a permanent solution to the problem.
