Sudipta Sen, chairman of Saradha Group which allegedly cheated thousands of poor investors in West Bengal and other states, was today remanded in 10 days police custody amid noisy protests outside the court.
Sen was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Debdeep Manna after being brought from Dum Dum jail in the morning and police sought 14 days' custody.
When accosted by mediapersons during his hasty exit from the court through a backdoor, he said that "everything will be clear in the next three months".
Sen said he would cooperate with the investigating authorities and make sure that the poor investors get their money back.
Along with Sen, his aide Arvind Singh Chauhan, also accused in the Saradha Group chit fund scam, was also remanded in 10 days' police custody by the ACJM.
A large number of Congress supporters, agents of the collapsed chit fund company and investors demonstrated in the Baruipur court premises when Sen was brought from production.
Sen and his aide faced noisy demonstration again when he was taken out of the court through the back door in a small car.
As the otherwise peaceful demonstration turned into a scuffle, police resorted to lathicharge in which a person was injured. He was bleeding from his head.
Anticipating trouble as the Saradha Group's main office is situated at Baruipur and a large chunk of its investors resided in the poor hinterland of the district, the police threw an elaborate security blanket around the court.
Asked aboout the reason for his company's downfall, Sen said that a few of his trusted employees were to blame for the collapse.
He refused to name any political leader associated with his company.
