Sugar prices bounce on brisk demand, thin supply

Sugar prices shot up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on immense buying by stockists, retailers and bulk consumers amid fuelled up by tight supplies from mills.
Marketmen said a sudden boost in demand from stockists, retailers and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers ahead of the new month coupled with fall in supplies from mills, mainly attributed a significant rise in the sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices went up by a whopping Rs 100 each to end the day at Rs 3,980-4,040 and Rs 3,970- 4,030 per quintal respectively.
Likewise, prices of sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 climbed Rs 50 each to conclude at Rs 3,570-3,710 and Rs 3,560-3,700 per quintal.
Coming to the millgate section, sugar Khatuli bounced by Rs 65 to Rs 3,690, Simbholi hardened by Rs 60 to Rs 3,690 and Asmoli by Rs 55 to Rs 3,690 per quintal.
Sugar Kinnoni, Dorala, Dhanora and Dhampur swifts by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 3,710, Rs 3,660, Rs 3,680 and Rs 3,630, followed by Mawana, Ramala and Modinagar gained by Rs 40 each to Rs 3,660, Rs 3,580 and Rs 3,650 per quintal.
Prices of Budhana, Thanabhavan and Anupshaher also edged up by Rs 35 each to Rs 3,655, Rs 3,650 and Rs 3,570 per quintal.
