Sugar prices fall on surplus stocks, limited offtake

Sugar prices tumbled down by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today as supplies exceeded the demand due to record production.

Marketmen said, surplus stocks on non-stop supplies from mills due to record production amid need base off-take by stockists and bulk consumers dragged the sweetener's prices down.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices declined by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 2,760-2,880 and Rs 2,750-2,870 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices dropped by Rs 50 each to conclude at Rs 2,550-2,680 and Rs 2,540-2,670 per quintal.

In mill gate section, sugar Sakoti and Khatuli fell by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,570 and Rs 2,675, while Kinnoni, Budhana, Asmoli and Dorala slid by Rs 45 each to Rs 2,680, Rs 2,595, Rs 2,650 and Rs 2,595 per quintal, respectively.

Prices of Mawana and Dhampur also declined by Rs 40 each to Rs 2,590 and Rs 2,555 per quintal.
