A lavish feast was given to over 52 elephants, including babies, at the Sree Vadakkunnathan temple here this morning under the auspices of Vadakkunnathan Temple Protection Council.
The chief priest of the temple Kottampilly Narayanan Namboodiri inaugurated the feast by giving a humongous rice morsel mixed with jaggery, ghee and turmeric powder to the youngest among the lot, Vettathu Gopikannan.
Over half-a-ton superior quality rice was cooked for feasting the pachyderms, Temple Protection Council spokesman, V Ramaswamy said.
Prior to this, a three hour long Mahaganapathi Hoomam was performed.
