"In a surprise inspection at a jail here, prohibited items like lighters, gutkha, etc were found in the bags of inmates, after which wardens of the concerned barracks were issued show cause notice," District Magistrate, Rajshekhar said.
Strict instructions have been issued to check visitors, prison staff and inmates coming back from court hearings so that prohibited items do not enter the jail premises, he said.
The cracks which developed at some buildings of the district jail here by the earthquake that struck on April 25 will be repaired by RNN agency, the District Magistrate said, adding that work to repair CCTV cameras was also underway.
The jail administration said that equipments like jammers and computer sets for visitor management system are yet to be supplied by jail headquarters.
Similar inspections were also conducted in Lakhimpur, Etah, Mainpuri, Sultanpur and other districts.
