Two suspected members of an illegal arms syndicate have been arrested with 20 pistols, the police said today.
On a tip-off, Ramgopal alias Fauji (52) was arrested from near Subhash Marg-Ansari Road crossing in central Delhi's Daryaganj on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
He said that 10 pistols and 150 live cartridges were seized from him.
Another member of the syndicate, Naseem alias Jabir (37), was arrested yesterday from Agra. He was found carrying eight pistols and 30 live cartridges, Yadav said.
During investigation, it was revealed that a full-fledged illegal arms manufacturing factory was being run from Ramgopal's house in Etah. The unit was raided after the arrests, he said.
The police seized two more pistols, some semi-finished pistols and four magazines from the factory, the DCP said.
Several equipment used in manufacturing firearms, including drill machines, iron cutting machines, sand papers, dyes, were also recovered, he said.
During investigation, it was revealed that the firearms were brought to Delhi from Khargon, Burhanpur and Dhar in Madhya Pradesh and Munger in Bihar, he said.
It was found that a part of the syndicate operated by smuggling firearms into the national capital from Munger via Etah and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, the officer said.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had launched a special drive against illegal firearms suppliers in the here a year ago.
