Constable Firdous Ahmad of IRP sixth battalion was on security duty in Pattan town, 30 km from here, when he was attacked by unidentified persons with a knife from behind, a police spokesman said.
He said the policeman was injured and his attackers fled with his service rifle, adding a hunt had been launched to nab them.
This was the second incident of weapon snatching from a policeman in the valley in as many days.
Yesterday, a policeman, posted on guard duty at the residence of a Sessions judge here, claimed that militants snatched his service rifle.
