An alleged narcotics smuggler was arrested with 70 kg of poppy in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, the police said today.
Fayaz Ahmed Bhat was intercepted at a checkpoint in Ramban on the Jammu-Srinagar highway during a routine checking and frisking of vehicles last evening, a police officer said.
A search of Bhat's vehicle led to the recovery of 70 kg of poppy, he said.
Bhat was on his way to Jammu from Kashmir's Qazigund town.
A case has been registered against Bhat at the Ramban police station, the police officer said, adding that an investigation is underway to ascertain the source of his consignment and to identify others involved in the smuggling.
