CPI(M) today condemned the killing of over 30 people by Bodo extremists in Kokrajhar, saying there have been "systematic efforts" towards ethnic cleansing in that area of Assam.

It demanded firm action by security forces to curb the extremist elements and urgent steps to ensure security and protection of minorities in the area.

"This shocking attack targeting Bengali Muslims in various villages has led to the death of a large number of women and children.

"There had been systematic efforts earlier too for ethnic cleansing in the area," the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement here.
