Delhi BJP today protested here against the alleged financial irregularities during Uttarakhand tragedy relief work and challenged Congress Vice- President Rahul Gandhi to take action against his party's government in that state for their "misdeeds".
Several BJP leaders and scores of party workers of Delhi BJP's Uttaranchal Cell led by state unit President Satish Upadhyay gathered at Teen Murti Bhawan and marched towards Uttaranchal Bhawan in Chanakyapuri courting arrest, but they were detained outside Chanakyapuri police station.
Criticising Congress over the issue, Upadhyay challenged Rahul Gandhi to come forward and take action against his party's "corrupt government's (Uttarakhand government) misdeeds".
"Congress government indulged in such a rampant corruption at a time when people were dying or struggling to get relief. Last month Congress leader Rahul Gandhi indulged in a gimmick visit to the Dev Bhoomi Kedarnath and has been speaking a lot about corruption during last few weeks," Upadhyay claimed.
"People are shocked to see RTI and other audit reports which have revealed mass bungling of funds under Congress' rule in the name of aid. It will be a true tribute to those who lost their lives in the natural calamity, if Rahul Gandhi comes forward to take action against his party government's misdeeds in the name of Uttaranchal relief work," the BJP leader said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Vijendra Gupta today said Delhi's law minister J S Tomar's arrest on charges of cheating and fraud in obtaining his law degree was "justified" and that he must be "dismissed" from the ministerial post.
