Posing yet another challenge to the Jet-Etihad deal, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has shot off a letter to the Prime Minister urging him to take a "well- informed" decision in the matter, saying the entire government was being dragged into a controversy.
"While it was one minister who has been blamed for the 2G mess, the present case (Jet-Etihad deal) will see your entire government being dragged through the mud.
"Once again, our relations with a foreign nation will be made to suffer - for the personal, vested interests of a few unscrupulous people," he said in the letter written on Tuesday.
In the three-page letter, Dubey referred to the questions raised by SEBI regarding the Rs 2,058 crore deal regarding "effective control" of the airline.
"I am not against any investor or this deal in particular. What I wish to ensure is that the rights of minority shareholders and the public at large are not denied by the entire government and agencies conniving to prevent a public open offer as is required under law," he said.
He urged the Prime Minister to "take a conscious well- informed decision, based on laws and facts and not like the Ministry of Civil Aviation that has failed to even ensure basic checks and balances in this deal."
Dubey also asked how could Jet Airways get its first slot at London Heathrow airport after being designated an Indian carrier with the right to fly overseas.
The BJP MP has earlier too written letters to the Prime Minister and the Chief Vigilance Commissioner questioning the deal. Similar letters have also been written by a few other MPs and politicians as well.
