The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) today told the Delhi High Court that it has taken various steps to render legal assistance and in creating awareness among the persons hailing from Northeast.
"Seven advocates from Northeast have been empanelled with DSLSA for assisting the Northeast people," a report submitted by Dharmesh Sharma, member secretary of DSLSA, said.
The report was submitted before a bench, headed by Chief Justice G Rohini, in a PIL which was instituted after the court had taken suo motu cognisance of the death of 19-year-old Nido Tania here, son of an Arunchal Pradesh MLA.
The report was filed in pursuance of an earlier direction asking DSLSA to apprise the court about the steps taken for creating awareness among Northeastern people.
The seven advocates from the Northeast also include five women.
DSLSA in its report has also said that various awareness and sensitisation programmes have been organised during May-July 2014 in various parts of the national capital to address the grievances of the people hailing from Northeast.
According to the report, a special drive -- Para Legal Volunteers Training -- was carried out for the people from Northeast during the summer in which around 250 students from all over India had participated.
