The plant's capacity will go up to 0.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the existing 0.3 MTPA.
The domestic steel giant, which is among the top-ten global steel companies, will manufacture hot rolled skin passed pickled and oiled (HRSPO) coils and hot rolled pickled and oiled (HRPO) coils here.
In January, an Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Environment Ministry had recommended giving environment clearance (EC) to Tata Steel's proposal to expand its capacity at Cold Rolling Mill complex located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
The EC has been issued to the company subject to some conditions, the official added.
Since the project is located outside the boundary of the Dalma Eco Sensitive Zone at a distance of 2.7 km, the company has been asked to prepare a wildlife conservation plan in and around the project site and earmark separate funds.
It has been asked to set up at least four ambient air quality monitoring stations at the site to control emissions, make use maximum water from rain water harvesting sources and utilise treated effluents for dust suppression and green belt development.
Tata Steel has informed the EAC that it would not require additional land for the proposed capacity expansion. The required land of 8.31 hectares is available within the complex.
The company said it would require 600 people during the construction phase and 500-700 persons during the operation phase of the expansion project.
Tata Steel is the world's second most geographically- diversified steel producer with operations in 26 countries and an annual crude steel capacity of nearly 30 MTPA.
