"This has happened for the first time that while the Seventh Pay Commission is expected to submit report by the end of the month, a separate pay review committee was yet to be set up for teachers of private and government varsities and colleges," Jagwant Singh, General Secretary of Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers' Organizations (PFUCTO), said.
An education bandh call was yesterday given by the All-India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) and endorsed by PFUCTO.
The protesters took out rallies in Chandigarh, Patiala, Bhatinda, Muktsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar.
A rally was held at the Panjab University here. The protesting teachers demanded immediate appointment of the UGC pay review committee under the Seventh Pay Commission.
