Temp dips in parts of HP, J&K; parts of northern plains shiver

Minimum temperatures in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir dipped today while parts of northern states shivered under cold conditions.
It was a pleasant day in the national capital as the sun shone bright and the maximum temperature rose to 24 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average. The minimum temperature settled two notches below normal at 9.4 degrees Celsius.
Night temperature across Kashmir Valley marked an improvement, but the mercury went further below the freezing point in Ladakh region.
Kargil town in Ladakh region registered a minimum temperature of minus 16.2 degrees Celsius while the nearby Leh town recorded a low of minus 16.9 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius - up from minus 3 degrees Celsius the previous night.
Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, which serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a low of minus 7.8 degrees Celsius, while in Gulmarg the mercury settled at minus 9 degrees Celsius.
The intense cold wave conditions sweeping most parts of Himachal Pradesh further tightened its grip as night temperatures in higher altitudes of the state, which were below the freezing point, dropped by a few notches.
Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti, and Kinnaur districts recorded minimum temperatures at minus 14.1 degrees Celsius and minus 4 degrees Celsius respectively. Shimla registered a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius.
The higher hills witnessed thick frost on the ground which disrupted vehicular traffic in the morning hours and the water taps were frozen.
However, day temperatures rose marginally and Una was the hottest with maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius while Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a high of 22.6 degrees Celsius.
Cold weather conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, with many places in both the states recording minimum temperatures below normal.
People in Bihar witnessed a sunny day while minimum temperatures declined by a few notches in major cities of the state today due to westerly wind.
The minimum temperature in Patna was 9 degrees Celsius and the maximum was 27 degrees Celsius. Gaya and Bhagalpur too experienced decrease in minimum temperatures registering a low 9.7 and 12.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
