Ten-day Ganesh Chathurthi festival begins

The ten-day 'Ganesh Chathurthi' festival began at the famous Karpaga Vinyaka shrine at Pillayarpatti near here today with the hoisting of the temple flag.
Officials said the important days of the festival included 'Gajamukhasura Samharam' (killing of the demon with elephant face),which will be held on August 25. Car festival will be held on August 28 followed by Theerthavari festival the next day when the idol would be immersed in holy water, bringing the curtain down on the festivities.
