Tension erupted here today over the kidnapping of three children, one of whom was found dead while the remaining two were spotted with injury marks on their bodies, police said.
According to Vinay Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of police for Magadh Range, locals staged a protest in Gevalbigha locality, setting ablaze tyres over the abduction of Tannu Kumari, Ankit Kumar and Suraj Kumar.
The three children were residents of Gevalbigha in Rampur police station area of the town and their family members had lodged a complaint at the police station yesterday after they went missing, the DIG said.
This morning, the body of Tannu (8) was found near the official residence of Vice Chancellor of Magadh University while Ankit and Suraj were found, with injuries on their bodies, near the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College.
Angered over what they termed as "police inaction", the locals hit the streets, blocking traffic in Gevalbigha for a few hours before the situation was brought under control, the DIG said.
The protesters also accused a local resident Chhotu, said to be a bad character, of being behind the abductions and assault, the DIG said adding that the suspect has been arrested and was being interrogated.
