The incident took place this morning when people took to streets demanding arrest of those involved in defilement and were stopped by the police leading to brickbatting.
Later, police resorted to lathicharge and controlled the situation.
DIG, RKS Rathore said that that those trying to vitiate the atmosphere will be dealt strongly.
He said that teams have been formed and the case will be cracked soon.
A place of worship was found desecrated in Sahukara Naugawan area yesterday.
Infuriated over the incident, people of the area blocked traffic on Bareilly-Delhi highway for several hours, police said. Shops in the area were also closed in protest.
Locals alleged that this was the third incident in last two weeks, but no action was taken by police even after lodging complaint.
