Test tube yak born in Arunachal Pradesh

A test tube yak has been born at a farm of the National Research Centre at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh's West Kameng district.
The calf was born on July 15 at the Nyukmadung farm, a unit of the Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Principal scientist Dr P Chakravarty said today.
The male calf weighing 19 kg is the result of transfer of cryopreserved yak embryo produced through in-vitro fertilisation.
The calf has been named 'Norgyal' meaning 'Ratnaraj', Chakravarty said.
The achievement, a breakthrough toward conservation and multiplication of elite yaks in the country was a collaborative work with support from the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology under the principal guidance of Dr Chakravarty, and Dr M S Chauhan, Principal Scientist, NDRI, Karnal and other resource persons.
