Thane civic body asked to act against hospital staff

Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde today directed the civic authorities to take action against those responsible for the incident in which a pregnant woman was allegedly driven out of a hospital following which she delivered on the street, resulting in the death of the child.
Shinde, who met the affected woman and her husband from Jalna at Thane District Civil Hospital, directed the municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal to take action against the staff of Shree Chatrapati Shivaji Civic Hospital at Kalwa.
He also directed Thane Police Commissioner VV Laxmi Narayana to register offence in this regard.
The husband of the woman, Gangadhar Dode told the police that on the night of March 10, they were on their way to Kalyan in search of job. His wife who was seven months pregnant, developed labour pains and was taken to Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, police said.

As the hospital did not have the required equipment she was shifted to Kalwa civic hospital. The staff in the hospital made a demand of Rs 800 for the equipments as the hospital also did not not have the equipments, he said.
"As we could not fulfill the financial requirements, we were driven out of the hospital. But my wife delivered on the road around 2.00 am, while she was being taken to Mumbra. An auto driver who spotted gave us a lift and took us to Mumbra station, where they spent the night. However, we realised that that the baby had died," he said.

MLA Pratap Sarnaik of Shiv Sena visited the hospital and met the couple and gave them financial assistance of Rs 25,000. MNS has assured them employment.
