people of Rabha Hasong ethnic community in police firing and clashes in Goalpara district during the panchayat elections on February 12. It affected normal life in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts as well as in Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council areas of Goalpara district. In Baksa district, a car and two trucks were damaged, police said. There was no new incident of violence in Goalpara since last night and the death toll in the violence during the panchayat polls stood at 20. Indefinite curfew, however, continued in Krishnai and Mornoi areas of the district. Ruling Congress has taken an early lead in the panchayat polls, counting for which was taken up this morning, while regional outfit All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has secured some success in lower and central Assam districts and BJP in parts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts. Congress is leading in 198 seats of zilla parishad members, while AIUDF is ahead in 55 seats, Asom Gana Parishad in 32 and BJP in 14. As per reports till 6 pm from various district headquarters, primary trends were available for around 300 out of the total 420 seats for zilla parishad members. Counting in Goalpara district would be taken up tomorrow and final results are expected by tomorrow evening.
