West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee today hailed the Calcutta High Court's decision to dismiss a PIL against conferment of D.Litt. on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and said people who have no work were trying to earn brownie points over the issue.
Banerjee was honoured by the Calcutta University with D.Litt. at its convocation ceremony on January 11.
"Those who have nothing to do apart from trying to find fault in each and every decision are making an issue out of it. We thank the court for their judgment. People with political affiliations are trying to score brownie points over this issue," Chatterjee told reporters here.
Instead of filing PILs, they should use their energies in a positive way, he said.
The high court had, earlier in the day, dismissed a plea that challenged the CU's decision to confer D.Litt. on the West Bengal CM and said no public interest has been harmed because of it.
