Threat calls to DCW chief: Notice served on police for 'failing' to lodge FIR

The Delhi Commission for Women on Thursday issued a notice to police for "failing" to register an FIR on a complaint regarding threat calls to its chief Swati Maliwal and her family.

In a letter to Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, the DCW chief had stated that her family and she had received threat calls from some people who appeared to be spa owners.

The panel had conducted raids on spa centres and claimed that they were hubs of prostitution.

On September 20, Maliwal had written to Patnaik, providing him audio clips of the threatening calls.

She has sought the arrest of the people involved in making those calls.

"However, even after the passage of almost one week, police have failed to even register an FIR, leave alone arresting the accused," the panel said.

On Wednesday, the DCW office had received a call from police, informing that they wished to provide a security cover to Maliwal, the panel said.

Maliwal denied the police's offer.

Even earlier, sensing a threat to her life, the Delhi Police had offered to provide security to Maliwal, which she had denied, the panel said.

"The DCW chief does not wish to get any special treatment as each and every woman is presently insecure in Delhi, the panel said.

"Further, a large section of the Delhi Police is involved in providing security to VIPs. This adds to their burden and diverts their attention from securing the people of Delhi," they added.
