Three accused in recruitment case get double life imprisonment

Three accused in a case relating to recruitment of Keralite youths for terror camps in Kashmir were today sentenced to double life imprisonment by a special NIA court here for waging war against India in 2006.
The remaining 10 accused were sentenced to life and a fine of Rs 50,000 each. This is the second verdict in a terror case probed by National Investigation Agency in Kerala.
Accused Abdul Jabbar, who managed to escape in an encounter with Indian army and was later arrested from Ernakulam district, Sarfuraz Nawaz, who had raised funds for terrorist act by sending money from abroad and Sabir P Buhari, who had received funds of terrorism, have been sentenced to consecutive life imprisonment for offences under sections of 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war and 121A (conspiracy to commit offences)of IPC and sect 16 and sect 18 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

While Jabbar has to pay a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh, Nawaz and Sabir have to pay a fine of Rs one lakh each.
Special court Judge S Vijay Kumar held that with regard to Jabbar, Nawaz and Sabir "the different counts of imprisonment for life, which are term sentences, shall be consecutive, one to commence on the expiration of the other except where expressly provided to be concurrent."
Since T Naseer, Banglore blast accused, and other accused Shafas are presently undergoing life sentence in the Kozhikode twin blast case, their life sentences herein awarded shall commence only on the expiration of the imprisonment for life they are now suffering, the court held.

The court had on October one found 13 accused guilty in the case while acquitting 5 others.
