The money was stolen on July 19. A retired postman, who was working as a security guard at the Head Post Office, was killed in the incident, they said.
They had stolen Rs 6.3 lakh form the post office's chest, of which Rs 4.6 lakh has been recovered, police said.
Circle Officer (Khurja) Kishan Gopal Singh said that the breakthrough came after it was detected that three mobile phone users were frequently changing their IMEI numbers.
