Three arrested in suspected honour killing

Three persons were arrested today and sent to jail custody in connection with a case of suspected honour killing.
Inspector in-charge of Plant Site police station Upendra Pradhan said the three arrested were the two brothers and brother-in-law of a woman who was killed allegedly by them for eloping with a man belonging to a different community and marrying him about two years ago in the face of opposition by her family.
Pradhan said the couple never returned to Rourkela after their marriage as the woman was scared of her family members.
They, however, returned early last week after being persuaded over phone by her family members, who also promised to accept their marriage.

But the woman's husband received an information on May 10 that his wife had died and her body was already cremated. Thereafter he lodged an FIR with police suspecting foul play, said Pradhan.
Police collected the bones from the cremation site and other samples for forensic investigation.
The statements of the woman's family members, specially by her brothers made the police suspicious and led to the arrest of the three mwn, the IIC said.
