Three child marriages stopped in Erode District

Three child marriages were stopped by officials in the disrict in the last ten days.
Acting on timely information, officials from the Social Welfare and Revenue departments intervened and prevented the marriages involving girls aged 14, 16 and 17, district Childline Director Arun said in a release today.
The girls belonged to Modakurichi, Sathyamangalam and Gobichettipalayam.
He warned that conducting marriages of girls below 18 years was an offence and persons who arrange such weddings would be prosecuted.
