The deceased are identified as Sapna (15), her sister Vandana (13), and their friend Mona (15).
"The incident occurred when Vandana started drowning while taking bath. In a bid to save her, Sapna also entered the water, followed by Mona. However, all of them drowned," said Raisen Police Station in charge Abhay Nema.
He said though another friend of the girls, who witnessed the incident, raised an alarm, the trio could not be saved.
"We have fished out bodies of the girls with the help of divers. The bodies were handed over to their family members after postmortem. A case has been registered against the quarry owner," he said.
