Three persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing cash of Rs 12 lakh belonging to a Goregaon-based firm, a senior official said here today.
Two employees of the firm and another person have been arrested in connection with the case, said the official.
The two accused Anil Kondaskar and Mayur Vichle worked for a firm, which acted as a facilitator between the bank and customers. They used to collect money from the firm's clients and deposit it in their bank account, said DCP Zone XII Kirankumar Chavan said.
The duo in connivance with their friends staged a plan to steal the money, said the official.
"As part of the plan, Anil and Mayur were beaten up and robbed by some unidentified persons (their friends) in Goregaon when they were returning to their office after collecting cash of Rs 12 lakh," said the official.
The employees then approached Aarey police station and lodged a complaint in this regard.
However, police found many loopholes in their version and started the probe suspecting the duo's role in the crime.
Upon sustained interrogation, Anil and Mayur confessed that they committed the crime in connivance with their friends Prasad Patil and another person, who is still absconding, the DCP said.
The trio has been booked for robbery, he said, adding, police have recovered Rs 9 lakh of the robbed money.
They were produced before a local court today which sent them to police custody till Monday.
