"Ghat Ki Guni tunnel, an alternate and better route to connect the city with NH-11, Ramniwas Bagh parking which has a capacity of 987 cars and Gujjar ki Thadi underpass are ready and would be opened during the Chintan Shivir by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi," Commissioner, JDA, Kuldeep Ranka told PTI.

"All the projects are ready and the day and time for the inauguration will be finalised shortly at chief minister's level," Ranka said.

The 2800-metre long tunnel will help in easing congestion and will streamline the traffic on the Eastern gateway of the city where people had to face huge inconvenience due to traffic jams on the accident-prone serpentine earlier route which is with steep slope towards the Agra road-NH-11.

Considering limited availability of parking space in and around the walled city, the state government took up the parking project to develop a two-level underground parking site in Ramniwas garden, the commissioner said.

According to a government estimate, the walled city, which has famous markets like Chaura Rasta, Johri Bazar and Kishanpol Bazar, attracts about 27,000 cars and 64,000 two wheelers everyday and parking remains a main problem in these areas.

Congress's Chintan Shivir (brainstorming camp) is taking place in the city on January 18 and 19 which will be followed by AICC meeting on January 20.
