Three persons were injured when police opened fire during a protest by a group of candidates at an army recruitment camp in Assam's Jorhat district today, police said.
The army's Branch Recruitment Office (BRO), Jorhat had organised a three-day recruitment rally at the Jorhat Stadium here for candidates of Upper Assam, some of whom were allegedly rejected as they did not have relevant documents, they said.
The issue sparked off protest from the candidates who then went on a rampage, following which the police present at the stadium fired in the air to disperse them, and three protesters were injured in the incident.
After this the protesters left the stadium and reached Baruah Chariali, a prominent locality of the town, and went on a rampage there too, police said.
The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The injured have been admitted to Jorhat Civil Hospital, the police added.
