Speed thrills but kills! This proverb came true for three students of JNU who died today after their speeding motorcycle skidded of the road and hit a roadside pavement in the wee hours today, police said
The three deceased - Ravi Singh Chaudhary, Ravi Shankar Gupta, both residents of Gaya, Bihar and Santosh, a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand - were doing their Master's in Korean Language from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University.
All three of them were bright students and Chaudhary was the topper of the class, he had represented his department in speech competition in Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam and Thailand. Chaudhary and Santosh had visited Korea on scholarships as well.
The incident happened around 0245 hours when all the three, who were in their mid-20s and final year students, approached the east gate of the campus.
Speed and mix of alcohol was stated as the primary reason for the fatal accident.
"None of the three were wearing helmets and trace of alcohol was found in the bodies of Santosh and Ravi Shankar Gupta in the postmortem. Although they were not performing any kind of stunts, but they were traveling very fast," said a police official.
They were thrown in air and fell a few feet away after the motorcycle hit the pavement.
One student died on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, police said.
"The CBZ bike belonged to Chaudhary who was apparently driving it when the incident took place. They came from JNU Ring road and were approaching toward the east gate of the campus which opens at Aruna Asaf Ali road", a police official said.
