Three persons were arrested for allegedly procuring huge consignment of psychotropic drug 'Tramadol' worth Rs 37,50,000 and illegally supplying it in several parts of the country, police said Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Babloo Kumar (28), Sri Chand (42) and Rakesh Mishra (38).
150 boxes containing 37,500 tablets of Tramadol also known as fighter drug, was recovered from their possession, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan said.
Based on a tip off, a trap was laid near Red Fort on September 3, following which the accused who had come to deliver the huge consignment of Tramadol tablets were arrested from the spot, he said.
Police said the accused Kumar, who is working for one Marwah was supplying Tramadol after obtaining it from Chand from Bhagirath Place market, Delhi, to different places in India.
During sustained interrogation, Babloo disclosed that he was working on the instructions of a person who used to procure Tramadol tablets and supply it in different parts of India through courier. While Chand who ran a courier service used to receive and deliver parcels on his instructions, the senior officer said.
Police said Chand was well aware about the packing of parcels and he used his contacts to deliver the parcels to several places in the country.
'Tramadol' is a powerful pain killer, a synthetic opiate drug and has been declared Psychotropic substance. Its sale in the country is regulated and controlled by Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances act. It has been internationally smuggled and has possible supply links to the global terror groups, police said.
