Three militants of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) were killed and a jawan of Assam Rifles was injured during an encounter in Tamenglong district today.
The encounter took place in the wee hours today after the 13th Assam Rifles personnel were attacked by the militants at Nungkao area, about 112 KM north-west of here, an official report said.
The personnel were patrolling the area to drive out ZUF militants, the report said, adding, the three militants were killed on the spot.
The encounter between the newly set-up militant outfit and the security personnel lasted for more than three hours. The rest of the militants escaped through nearby thick hilly jungles, it said.
The injured jawan was brought here for treatment.
