Three unfit horses used to pull Victoria Carriages rescued

Three unfit horses used to pull Victoria Carriages at Marine Drive here were rescued after a complaint was filed by officials of PETA and an NGO with local police.
Action was taken at Netaji Subhash Marg at Marine Drive after a non- cognizable complaint was filed by officials of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and an NGO Animal Rahat working for animal welfare, police said today.
The rescued animals were malnourished and injured and have been sent for necessary treatment to 'Bail Ghoda' hospital in Parel in central Mumbai, police said.
Senior officials from PETA and Animal Rahat yesterday went to Marine Drive with local police and action was taken against three Victoria carriages and its operators who were not able to produce necessary licences, officials of PETA said.

"Non-cognizable complaint was filed with police. We have taken necessary action and rescued three horses which were used for pulling Victoria carriages at Marine Drive. Reports about injuries to the horses are still awaited. We will take further action after the reports are available," Popat Yadav, Senior Police Inspector of Marine Drive Police Station said.
A total of nine unfit horses have been seized from Mumbai roads since July by Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), officials of PETA said.
