Three youths drowned in Yamuna river at K.C ghat in Vrindaban, today after they went into the deeper end of the river, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Biru (21), Ankit (18) and Vijai (20). They were all residents of Daherpur village PS Dataganj district Badaun. The efforts of divers to fish out the dead bodies are still on, they said.
"After getting the information from their friend Deepak from Badaun that three youths have drowned in deep water of Yamuna at about 2 pm, divers started working hard to fish them out. So far they have not succeeded," Dy SP Rajeev Sonkar said.
The identity of the deceased could be established from their mobile phones left at the ghat. They were heading towards Surat, Sonkar said.
The rescue operation was hampered for over one hour, owing to dust storm and rain, he added.
Deepak, with his three friends, after paying their obeisance in a temple in Vrindaban, went to take bath in Yamuna at K.C ghat.
"While I preferred to stay in less water and advised them to do the same, they all went into the deeper end," Deepak said.
