Tight police security in Mumbai on polling day

Amid tight police security at polling centres and elsewhere in the city, the keenly contested election to the Mumbai civic body BMC passed off peacefully today.
A 55 per cent turn-out was recorded in the city.
A few cases of non-cognisable offences and one cognisable case of 'obstructing a government officer in the discharge of duty' were registered.
As much as 95 per cent of the city cops were on the streets throughout the day.
A case of obstructing the government servant in the discharge of official duty was registered at Antop Hill police station, said DCP Ashok Dudhe, the police spokesperson.
Overall the situation was peaceful and there were no untoward incidents, he said.
In suburban Mulund, Shiv Sena workers gheraoed BJP MLA Sardar Tarasingh, alleging that he was canvassing for BJP outside polling booth, in violation of poll panel norms.
His son alleged that Singh's car was attacked.
Some cases of distribution of cash or liquor to voters were recorded last night.
In Vikhroli's Suryanagar, Rs 60,000 were seized by police which an independent candidate was distributing.
Liquor was seized in Kurar area in western suburbs last night.
The police have made special arrangements to safeguard the EVM machines until the counting on February 23.
The EVM machies are kept in strong-rooms at 23 polling centres with round-the-clock deployment of police and State Reserve Police outside.
CCTV cameras are also installed at these centres.
