The increase in the turnover is owing to the carpentry unit of the jail which recorded an increased supply of desks to Delhi government schools.
"The main reason behind the increased revenues was the bulk supply of desks to Delhi government schools. Earlier, 200-225 desks were being manufactured by the factory which later increased to 400 desks per day," Director General (Tihar) Vimlaa Mehra told reporters here today.
Other reasons for the increased revenues were the enhancement of budget allocation and allocation of two new sheds to the carpentry unit.
Other than carpentry there are six units in the jail factory which include tailoring, chemical, weaving, paper and bakery where inmates work.
