Time to fast track justice delivery: SC judge

Supreme Court judge Justice B S Chauhan today said upholding the rule of law should form an integral part of judges' daily functioning and exercise of power should ensure that it prevails in practical sense.
Justice Chauhan called upon judges to play proactive role in fast-tracking delivery of justice to the people.
He said the citizens of the country should have the confidence that their cases will be heard in even headed and honest fashion according to the Rule of Law and not as per the whims and fancies of those dispensing justice.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 3rd Regional Judicial Conference (North Zone) on 'Role of courts in upholding Rule of Law' at SKICC here.

Justice Chauhan said a common man feels empowered when rule of law prevails in a country.
Addressing the conference, another Supreme Court Judge Justice T S Thakur said the conference is like an investment which should reap positive dividends and the same can be demonstrated through better commitment to rule of law and improved performance in quality of justice delivery.

Justice Thakur described the conference as an intellectual feast and said the subject of 'Rule of Law' is well known and forms the part of our constitutional creed.
He said the subject has many dimensions, yet the manner in which it was addressed with such clarity and passion by eminent and distinguished judicial luminaries has made the conference a memorable one for all of us.

Chief Justice Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice M M Kumar said such conferences particularly in this region are rare and added such intellectual interactions were enriching for all especially for the students who are hungry for knowledge.
He expressed hope that Supreme Court and National Judicial Academy will give the state further opportunities to hold such conferences in the future.
During the 3-day conference, as many as 10 sessions were held in which eminent jurists dwelt in detail on various facets of Rule of Law. The conference was attended by Judges of Supreme Court, Judges of High Courts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
